Mission Statement

Mosaic Voices is a youth-led art and storytelling initiative that creates space for newcomer, second-generation, and underrepresented youth to explore their identities, share their stories, and express themselves through art. More than an arts literacy program, it is designed to help youth reflect on their place in their communities, their past, and their future while contributing to a visually cohesive mural at Fiddlesticks Community Centre.

WHO AM I?

Founder of Mosaic Voices

Amrit Bhandal

I'm a high school student who cares deeply about creating spaces where young people feel comfortable sharing their stories and experiences.

The confidence I built through my own opportunities for self-expression inspired me to create Mosaic Voices. I wanted to make something that helps youth from different backgrounds explore identity, tell their stories through art, and feel seen, heard, and connected to their community.

what I'm for?

Mosaic Voices supports youth who feel unseen, especially newcomers, second-generation teens, and underrepresented youth navigating identity, belonging, cultural transitions, or personal challenges. This project helps them share their stories with pride and authenticity.

who it's for?
  • Newcomer youth adjusting to a new community or environment
  • First and second-generation youth exploring culture, identity, and belonging
  • Youth from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds who want their experiences heard
  • High school youth looking for a creative way to express themselves and share their stories
  • Any young person who wants a welcoming space to reflect, create, and connect with others

I'm a firm believer that art is inherently abstract. There is no pressure to perfectly define your vision or explain your story; it can simply offer a glimpse into an emotion, experience, or feeling you want to share. Everyone who comes across a panel may understand it differently, bringing their own experiences and perspectives to what they see. That is what makes each creation so personal, yet part of something larger: a mosaic of stories, emotions, and ideas.

why this exists?

Mosaic Voices exists to give young people something we all need: a sense of belonging, a space to reflect, and a community that listens. Through art and storytelling, youth are encouraged to explore who they are, express emotions that may be difficult to put into words, and connect with others through shared experiences. At its heart is a simple belief: every young person has a story worth sharing. It does not have to be extraordinary or life-changing to matter. Every experience carries meaning, and every voice deserves the space to be seen, expressed, and heard.

what we're creating?
  • Host creative workshops centered around identity, culture, belonging, and personal experiences.
  • Give youth the space to turn their stories into personalized art panels.
  • Bring individual pieces together into a collective Mosaic Voices display at Fiddlesticks Community Centre.
  • Create opportunities for youth stories to be seen, shared, and celebrated by the wider community.
